On 20 May 2016, the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) released its determination to approve Western Power’s 2016/17 Price List for network tariffs, submitted to the ERA by Western Power on 29 April 2016.
The approved network prices will commence on 1 July 2016. The average change to individual reference tariffs for the transmission and distribution networks is 1.7 per cent, compared to the 2015/16 price list. This overall change comprises an increase of 4.8 per cent for distribution network tariffs and a reduction of 9.4 per cent for transmission network tariffs. Charges for individual customers will vary depending on the type of tariff they are on, and their usage.
In considering the proposed prices, the ERA confirmed that the prices proposed by Western Power complied with the price control and pricing methods set out in AA3.
It is a decision for the WA Government, who sets retail electricity prices for residential and small business customers, as to whether this overall increase of 1.7% in network tariffs is passed onto retail customers.
